Riverside House : Pubs, Restaurants, Food, Drink

This pub continues to be a good solid favourite of ours, they cater for groups and we alwaysl enjoy the food.  On a Sunday there is a choice of roast as well as an ever changing menu including curries, fish cakes, trout, lamb shank to name but a few.  The beer is very good (as was the wine) and service and welcome are fantastic.  Dogs are allowed in the non-carpeted part of the pub and outside in the seating areas in the summer.  You can walk from Riverside House but you do need to be reasonably fit to get there and back.  It is well worth a drive there, either lunch or evening and bookings are taken.  If you visit during the take stroll round Chelmorton just to see a pretty but not well known village.  See: The Church Inn in Chelmorton

Just off the Monsal Trail, about 10 minutes or so if walking and about one hour or so from Riverside House holiday cottage depending on age and fitness.  If driving about 10 minutes.  A charming, traditional, compact village pub with open fire, good local food and real ales. Muddy boots, children and dogs are all welcome.  It is now in the Good Beer Guide. Food is served 12-3 and 6-9 Mon to Fri, 12-9 Sat and 12-8 Sun.  Tel: 01629 640471

The Packhorse Inn

Situated off the Monsal Trail, about 10 minutes if walking and offers a good walk from Riverside House holiday cottage about one hour each way.  Why not combine with a visit to The Packhorse Inn in Little Longstone or The White Lion in Great Longstone?  Well behaved dogs are welcome too.  The pub serves good beer/ale and good pub food.  Tel: 01629 640237.

The Crispin, Great Longstone

Located about 10 mins walk off The Monsal Trail and about one hour each way from Riverside House holiday cottage.  By car about 10 mins drive.  This is the Derbyshire Life pub of the year for 2016.  A very pleasant interior, set out well for different groups of diners with welcoming, pleasant staff.  The food is great as is the beer/ale.  Dogs are welcome in the tap room.  Tel: 01629 640252

The White Lion, Great Longstone

After a first visit to this pub in March 16 we are happy to include it on our list.  It does take about 20 mins drive from Riverside House holiday cottage, but we think it is worth it.  Why not combine it with a walk?

The first thing to say is that this is a dining pub but it has a relaxed feel.  The second thing is that the food portions are large!  Go hungry.  There is a huge range of pies, burgers and amazing steaks.  You will not be dissapointed if you like good pub fayre.  Service was friendly and helpful.

There are local real ales on tap and we also enjoyed the wine selection.  Plenty of parking.
